🇺🇸 Haunted Places – September 2025 Little Box of Horrors

Squeezing this post out before Little Box of Horrors closes for the month. I keep meaning to get this post out sooner, but things were hectic last week and I just can’t make time to write. Anyway, here it is! This is the first time I’ve written a dedicated post for Little Box of Horrors (LBH), so I’ll include a brief intro at the end of the post. But first, theme of the month is Haunted Places, and I have swatches of 4 offerings from Lemming Lacquer and one from LynB Designs to share.

Crybaby Bridge｜Lemming Lacquer

First up from Lemming Lacquer, we have Crybaby Bridge, a polish inspired by Crybaby Bridge in Monmouth, IL. The story Cassie included in the description is actually kind of sweet so I’m including it here. The story goes that a bus full of kids fell off the bridge and died. Rumor has it that if you go to the bridge and put your car in neutral, the kids will push your car to safety. And if you put baby powder on your bumper the kids’ hands will leave prints! Cassie said she went there in high school with some friends, but unfortunately did not encounter any kid’s ghost. Crybaby Bridge is a medium blue holographic with shimmer shifting fuchsia to copper to gold. Shown in 2 coats. I love this one so much! The linear holo is absolutely beautiful.

Marie Leveau’s House｜Lemming Lacquer

Next up is Marie Leveau’s House, inspired by Marie Laveau’s House in New Orleans, Louisiana. Marie Laveau’s House is a magenta purple jelly with aurora shimmer shifting fuchsia to copper to gold, and flakes shifting green to gold to copper and copper to gold to green. Shown in 3 coats. I love the giant flakies! They remind me of a PPU shade from last year I Don’t Have Mushroom For Your Negative Vibes (Jan 2024 PPU), so I’ve included a little comparison in the back.

The Red Eyed Cat｜Lemming Lacquer

The Red Eyed Cat is inspired by a spectral cat with red eyes in the Castle at Montpelier Hill, Ireland. It is a purple leaning black with red to copper to gold aurora shimmer. Shown in 2 coats; you might need a 3rd if you’re applying them very thin. The microflake shimmers are pretty shifty! I’ve included in the back comparison with Under The Electron Microscope (March 2025 PPU), Life Is Short, You’re Capable (Curiosities From Wonderland 2025), and Quentin The Fool (The Magicians).

Villisca Axe Murder House｜Lemming Lacquer

The last shade from Lemming Lacquer is Villisca Axe Murder House, inspired by Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, IA and a dirty, bloody axe. Villisca Axe Murder House is a brown jelly with sharp as a blade silver flakes turned shiny brown, fresh blood red metallic flakes, and dirty black microflakes. Shown in 2 coats. If you want a darker base color, a 3rd coat will give you that effect. But I stopped at two because I like how I’m able to see the flakies more this way. This is definitely a super unique polish. Cassie nailed the inspo!

Villisca Axe Murder House｜USD$14.00｜15ml｜Cap 100

Hoia Bociu｜LynB Designs

Last but not least, from LynB Designs, we have Hoia Bociu, a muted green base with intense copper to gold shifting shimmer, inspired by the very eerie and some say haunted Hoia Bociu Forest in Romania. Shown in 2 coats. The opacity is very impressive. It does have a pearlescent finish, so don’t overwork it if you want a clean streak. It’s a very elegant color.

For those of you who’s not familiar with Little Box of Horrors (LBH), it is a monthly collab box with themes dedicated to all things spooky. It’s like Polish Pickup but Halloween all year long. Participating makers will have offerings up for pre-order every month from the 22nd to the 30th. September LBH is already available for pre-order; 9/30 11:59PM PST is the last day to shop. Based in the US, the shop is run by two indie nail polish brand owners, Paradox Polish and Wicked Lacquer. The shop opens from the 22nd to the 30th of every month for pre-order. Monthly theme of the following year will be submitted and voted by Facebook group members every September. Makers will then create a shop exclusive item based on the theme.
