Wildflower Lacquer’s first collection of 2024 is a stunner! We are blessed with the Mermaids of the Zodiac collection Volume 1 and a few limited editions, as well as the annual suicide awareness polish. In this post, I will be sharing everything from January’s launch. Before we start, a heads up that the other half (vol.2) of the Mermaids of the Zodiac collection will be coming in March. Now that we’ve got it out of the way, let’s get to the swatches!
Second Chance
Starting off with some LEs. This year, Taylor is starting a new series with every launch called “Polish for Paws”. Every other month, she will be creating a polish to benefit a different animal rescue. For January, she worked with Paulina Smith, who fosters and works with Animal Rescue Network of New England (ARNNE), to create this polish. Second Chance is a light pink base with aqua to blue to purple shifting shimmer and holographic flakes. This is a pink version of Squishy (previous PPU from 2022). $6 of every bottle sold will be donated to ARNNE. Shown in 2 coats. This one reminds me of Juice Bar from last year so I dug out my swatches and included them in the back. Swipe to see if you’re interested. In comparison, Second Chance leans a bit more purple with cool tone shimmer; while Juice Bar is more of a warm tone pink with gold shimmer. They look pretty different in real life.

Confetti for Betty
Confetti for Betty was originally going to be released (in early 2022) in honor of Betty White’s 100th birthday, but sadly she passed away before turning 100. Since some are still looking forward to it, Taylor decided to release it anyway. This is a clear base packed with a colorful variety of iridescent flakes. $6 of every bottle sold being donated to Morris Animal Foundation which Betty worked closely with. I swatched 2 coats of this over a blurring base coat. It is absolutely ethereal!

Purrfect Companion
Now we’ve come to this year’s Suicide Awareness polish. As most of you know, Taylor lost lost grandpa to suicide in early 2005. For the past few years she has been raising money for suicide awareness. Inspiration for 2024’s polish is books, and cats which were two of her grandpa’s favorite things. Purrfect Companion is a very light blue, teal leaning base with pink to gold to green shifting microflake shimmer, blue to green microflake shimmer, and holographic flakes. $6 of every bottle sold will be split to donate to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee (where he lived) and to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Shown in 3 coats. The flakies in this one look like a million little mirror reflecting the light. Truly beautiful! I’ve included comparison collage with Flippin’ the Bird, although they really are nothing alike.

Toebean, Toebean, Toebean, Tobe-ean
Inspired by the new kitten in Taylor’s house, Dolly’s toebeans! This is a clear base packed with pink to gold shifting microflake shimmer and subtle linear holo. Shown here in 2 coats as I love the sheer look. This would pair perfectly with Purrfect Companion in my opinion. Both are very shifty and sparkly! Comparison with Fairy Bells is included in the back. The texture of the flakies look different, and this one has holo added while Fairy Bells is pure flakie.

Pisces
Next up comes the Mermaids of the Zodiac collection. First we have Pisces, a deep cerulean blue with subtle purple to pink shifting shimmer, and scattered coppery red to gold to green shifting microflake shimmer. Shown in 3 coats. This may stain, so a good base coat is recommended. It looks like ocean glittering under the moonlight.

Aries
Aries is a brick red base with pink to gold to green shifting microflake shimmer and holographic flakes. Shown here in 3 coats. This one could also stain. This one is one of my favorites! I love a rich orange. I’ve included a comparison with Autumnal Winds in the back. Swipe to see if you’re interested. Their formulas are very different, also, Aries is less saturated than Autumnal Winds.

Taurus
Taurus is a teal base with pink to gold to green shifting microflake shimmer and holographic flakes. Shown here in 2 coats. Another one of my favorites! Those holo flakes are so pretty and sparkly!

Aquarius
Next up, Aquarius is a purple base with pink to purple microflake shimmer. Shown in 2 coats. Such a rich and vibrant purple!

Gemini
Gemini is a delicate lilac base with orange to gold to green shifting shimmer and scattered holographic flakes. Shown in 2 coats. I could have done 3 but I enjoy the sheerness a lot. It is a lovely everyday color.

Capricorn
Last color of the month is Capricorn, a clear base packed with coppery red to gold to green microflake shimmer and holographic flakes. Shown in 3 coats. The microflakes are so reflective that I find 2 coats and 3 coats looks almost the same; I can literally see my own refection on my nails. This one is no doubt the shiftiest color of the month.
