May 2023 Polish Pickup Swatch & Review – Junk Food

*Products shown are gifted in exchange for swatches. All opinions are my own.*

May Polish Pickup (PPU) is coming this weekend with the theme “Junk Food”. I have offerings from two brands to share with you, including DRK Nails and Wildflower Lacquer.

It’s my first time making a dedicated post for PPU offerings. I’ve been thinking about doing one since March, but have been hesitant because there are only two colors to share. But then I remember it’s not my first time making an article with only two colors. Plus, it’s always nice to see what will be available at the same time together. So here we go!

For those who are not familiar with Polish Pickup (PPU)— you can skip this part if you are— PPU is the largest monthly collaboration for indie nail polishes. Based in the US, the shop opens first Friday to the following Monday of every month for pre-order, featuring mostly indie nail polishes, as well as some indie jewelries, lifestyle items, wax melts, nail cares, bath and body cares, etc. The monthly shop will have different theme each month, submitted and voted by Facebook group members three month ahead, based on which all the brands will create a shop exclusive item. The exclusivity and the creativity of the makers are some of the reasons why PPU is well welcomed by many shoppers around the world.

Donut Give Up|DRK Nails

First up we have Donut Give Up by DRK Nails, a Brazilian nail polish brand. It is a magenta micro-flake magnetic mixed in aqua to blue to purple aurora pigment. Opaque in 3 coats. It was inspired by the maker Katia’s favorite junk food, Donut. With the name, Katia also shared some personal stories from when she first participated in PPU back in December 2018. She was going through a really rough time with the lost her marriage and the consequential financial crisis. She can barely pull through back then, but her faith in God and the support of the nail community help her through the tough time. So with this polish and its prototype “Keep Going”, which I will share my swatches at the end of this article, she wanted to encourage those who are struggling with life, to keep going and don’t give up.

Cake It Easy|Wildflower Lacquer

The second color I have for you is from Wildflower Lacquer, a brand based in Oklahoma, US. Cake It Easy is a dark chocolate base with red to orange to gold shifting shimmer. This month, Wildflower Lacquer will be teaming up with another indie brand Nailed It, using cupcakes as inspiration. Wildflower Lacquer is doing the cake part, while Nailed It taking care of the purple icing. You can go to Nailed It’s Instagram to see the other creation. I’m a sucker for brown polishes and anything chocolate-y, so this one is a dream come true! Opaque in 2 coats.

It’s been a while since I have such a short swatch and review. Despite how short this is, the two colors are both very beautiful. Do you plan on getting anyone, or both? Feel free to share your wishlist with me in the comment. Both of these will be available 5/5 11am EST to 5/8 11:59pm EST. The site should be ready for wishlisting in the beginning of May.

Lastly, I have some bonus swatches of the prototype of Donut Give Up.

Keep Going|DRK Nails

This is a bright sky blue magnetic mixed with iridescent micro-flakes, chameleon and aurora shimmer (magenta/gold/green). Opaque in 3 coats. It is available now through 5/7 6am EST at drknails.com.

That’s it for my swatch and review today. If you’d like to see more swatches and review, you can subscribe to my blog to be notify of new articles. I have so many new collections to share. Let’s hope I can complete the articles soon. You can also follow me on Instagram @jemima.nail for more nail art content. See you in the next one!
